    David Armstrong

    David is the Assistant Principal 2nd Violinist for the Spokane Symphony. Born and raised in Washington, he graduated in the top 1% of his class from Michigan State University and received a Master’s from Northwestern. While attending Northwestern, he was Principal 2nd Violin in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. He has held his position with the Spokane Symphony since 2009.

    As an educator, David devoted 10 years to being the viola specialist for all middle and high schools in District 81 as an integral member of the Young Musician Education Program (YMEP) through the Spokane Symphony. In this role, he had the opportunity to elevate the musical endeavors of hundreds of students throughout the Spokane area. David is also a sought after private violin and viola teacher and he has had many students progress through the Spokane Youth Symphony organization as well as receive scholarships to attend universities such as Whitworth.

    In addition to performing and teaching, David also has a passion for composing and arranging music and his work can frequently be heard performed by the Spokane Symphony. He has collaborated with The Sweeplings, The Cherry Poppin Daddies, and Jake Bergevin. He was also the composer/arranger for all episodes of the Spokane Symphony M Show and has had the joy of collaborating with Andy Rumsey for 2 years on the Lullaby Project.

    David also works as a contractor for hiring orchestras for traveling shows. He specializes in contracting shows which utilize full orchestra. Some examples include Cirque Musica (Live Nation), 4U (TCG Entertainment in partnership with The Prince Estate), and The Music Paradigm. David has a special love for baroque music and has proudly contracted (and served as concertmaster for) the orchestra for the annual Messiah sing-along at Spokane’s First Presbyterian Church.
